10 Feb Celebrating Love – Tips for Nurturing Relationships
Nurturing All Forms of Love this Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is a time we traditionally associate with romantic love, but it’s also a perfect opportunity to reflect on all the different forms of love that enrich our lives. Love isn’t just romantic; it’s the bond we share with family, the camaraderie of friendship, and the unique connection we have with our children. This year we’re celebrating the multifaceted nature of love and explore how we can nurture it in all its forms. Because it’s true—WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS LOVE, SWEET LOVE!
The Spectrum of Love:
- Romantic Love: The connection we share with a partner, filled with passion, companionship, and deep affection.
- Parental Love: The fierce, unconditional love a parent has for their child, a bond built on nurturing, protection, and unwavering support.
- Familial Love: The love for siblings, grandparents, and extended family, often rooted in shared history, traditions, and a sense of belonging.
- Friendship: The supportive and joyful bond between friends, characterized by trust, loyalty, and shared experiences.
Making Time for Your Partner (Even with Kids!)
For parents, finding time for each other can be challenging. However, prioritizing your relationship is crucial for the health of your family. Remember, your love is the foundation upon which your family is built. Here are some tips –
Celebrating your love for your partner:
- Schedule regular date nights: Even if it’s just for an hour at home after the kids are in bed.
- Communicate openly: Talk about your needs and desires. Remember that communication is a two-way street that involves active listening.
- Find common interests: Rediscover shared hobbies or try new activities together.
- Show affection: Small gestures like holding hands or a quick kiss can go a long way.
- Be supportive: Celebrate their wins and show interest in their passions.
The Power of Encouragement
Love is also about nurturing growth and confidence in others. As parents, one of the most powerful expressions of love is encouragement.
Dr. Popkin explains that the word “encourage” comes from the French word “coeur,” meaning “heart.” When we encourage our children, we instill courage in them, empowering them to pursue their goals, embrace challenges, and learn from failures. Active parenting, filled with heartfelt encouragement, helps children develop resilience and a strong sense of self-worth. Some ways to show encouragement can be as simple as being present and offering some kind words of support and praise. You don’t have to say a lot but choose your words with intention following the HEART method.
Active Parenting is HEART Work
Our National Trainer, Pamela Wood, explains that Active Parenting is HEART work. By using this method, we can ensure our interactions with others are driven by positive intentions.
H – is what I’m about to say HELPFUL?
E – will they be ENCOURAGED?
A – am I ACKNOWLEDGING who this person is?
R – am I being RESPECTFUL?
T – am I building TRUST?

Write a Letter of Encouragement
Writing a letter is a great way to offer encouragement to children, teens, and adults. A letter is a permanent reminder of your love and encouragement that they can refer to whenever they need a little extra encouragement.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
Love should never hurt. This February, as we celebrate love, let’s also raise awareness about teen dating violence. It’s crucial to educate young people about healthy relationships, consent, and the warning signs of abuse.
