About the authors of Families in Action

MICHAEL H. POPKIN, PH.D.
Dr. Popkin is the author of over 25 books and curricula on parenting, including Taming the Spirited Child and Active Parenting of Teens. Dr. Popkin earned a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Georgia State University and served as Director of Child and Family Services at an Atlanta hospital before entering private practice. He and his wife, Melody, live and work together in Atlanta and are the parents of two young adult children.

PEGGY HENDRICKSON, MA, MSW, ACSW
Margaret J. “Peggy” Hendrickson is an educator and social worker with 25 years of experience in providing prevention services. Her credentials include a BA in English and psychology from the University of Michigan, and MA in education from Central Michigan University, and an MSW from Michigan State University. Ms. Hendrickson has designed, implemented, and evaluated a number oaf successful prevention and early intervention programs, including the Families in Action curriculum. She currently divides her time between northern Michigan and southern Arizona, working as a consultant and grant writer for health and human service organizations.
