Active Parenting Publishers has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 5192. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Active Parenting Publishers is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.
As founder and president of Active Parenting Publishers, Dr. Popkin is widely recognized as the pioneer of video-based parent education. He has written the best-selling video-based programs Active Parenting 4th Edition, Active Parenting of Teens, and Active Parenting for Stepfamilies, and the book Taming the Spirited Child. His latest project is the parenting program Active Parenting: First Five Years.
For the past 17 years, Nebra has taught in various traditional and community classrooms as an educator, trainer, Sunday School teacher, and adjunct professor. A native of North Carolina, Nebra received her Post Master’s Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S) in Curriculum and Instructional Design from Liberty University in Virginia. She holds a Master’s of Arts in Women and Gender Studies/Community Health Education & Leadership Development from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Nebra is a National Trainer who has been leading Active Parenting classes since 2016.
Lisa earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s in Human Services, Health & Wellness from Liberty University in Virginia. She was the Family Empowerment Initiative Coordinator and then Director for the Wicomico Partnership for Families & Children in Salisbury, Maryland. Prior to that, she worked as a Family Mentor for Project Staying in Touch with the Wicomico County Department of Corrections. Lisa has been an Active Parenting National Trainer since 2013.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Tonika graduated from Ensley Magnet High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Tennessee State University, followed by a Master’s of Science Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University in Atlanta. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Nationally Certified Counselor. She is now the Program Manager of the Parenting Plus and Co-Parenting Experience programs at Families First in Georgia. Tonika has been an Active Parenting National Trainer since 2015.
Steven received his Master’s in Psychological Counseling from Nicholls State University (Thibodaux, Louisiana). He is the Coordinator of Parent Education Programs and Special Education Counseling Services for the Iberia Parish School System in New Iberia, Louisiana, and is also an Individual, Marriage & Family Counselor in private practice. Steven has been an Active Parenting leader and trainer since 2001.
Nancy started teaching parent education when she was a preschool director in 1987. She first brought Active Parenting to Arizona in 1989 and began working full-time as an educational consultant for the national office. She has been leading approximately seven groups per year (workshops and parent classes) for the past 23 years. Working primarily in Arizona, Nancy has found ways to present the class to many different audiences, including Native Americans and recent immigrants. She has advised social service agencies, churches, school districts, counselors, and businesses on how to set up and instruct classes successfully. Nancy earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees from Northern Arizona University with a specialization in Sociology and Education.
Pamela is a native Tennessean, US Army veteran, family mediator (specially trained in domestic violence), and founding owner of Family Life Enrichment (FLE) Consultants. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Tennessee with graduate studies in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Counseling. Pamela has been a National Certified Trainer for Active Parenting Publishers for the past 24 years. Family empowerment is her passion. She teaches the Active Parenting model to families at all levels from prenatal through young adult on an individual basis and in group settings. She loves children of all ages and hopes to help families experience the “joys” of parenting.
